Valley Stream Substation Design
Client: Long Island Rail Road
Location: Long Island, N.Y.
Construction Cost: $14 million
Our firm provided design services to Long Island Rail Road, an agency of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, for the replacement of the Valley Stream substation building and equipment. This substation feeds four main line tracks and two far rockaway branch tracks for 750V direct current (DC) 3rd Rail Traction Power.
Our firm’s design included new dual, 34-kV primary feeders, alternating current switchgear and rectifier transformers, rectifiers, DC switchgear, remote control, battery and battery charger, DC duct banks, and feeders. One 150-kVA motor-generator frequency converter set for signal power was included in the design.
