Market Street Elevated Reconstruction
Owner: Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Construction Value: $240 Million
As a major subconsultant, Gannett Fleming provided engineering
services for the replacement of 11,000 feet of elevated guideway,
five elevated stations, and one at-grade station on SEPTA's
Market-Frankford Line. This challenging project required the
replacement of the 90-year-old steel structure while maintaining
rail service on weekdays. The reconstruction of the stations
was especially challenging as station operations were specified
to be maintained while demolition of the existing stations and
guideway and construction of the new stations and guideway were
carefully staged. New stations were designed to provide modern
transit station amenities while integrating the facilities with
the existing urban environment.
