North Shore Communications System and OCC Upgrade

Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems (GFT&RS) has
been retained to provide consulting engineering services for
the North Shore Connector project in Pittsburgh, PA. Design services
included an upgrade of the OCC computer systems and the extension
of communications to support the new North Shore Connector stations.
The communications portion of this project consists of multiple
communications subsystems including:
- Fiber Optic Sonet System
- VMS/PA System
- Phones
- CCTV
- SCADA
- Signals
- Radio
- Fare Collection (future).
The communication subsystems to be provided support OCC communications
to four new passenger stations (Allegheny Avenue, North Shore
Park, Convention Center, and the Gateway Center) and to various
communications devices located above ground and in tunnels on
the Convention Center and Gateway Center Lines, while maintaining
compatibility with existing and other Stage II equipment currently
being installed under another contract.
