Broad Street Subway Signal System Upgrade

Our firm was selected to provide round-the-clock
inspection services for upgrading the entire
signal system for Philadelphia's Broad
Street Subway, a 10-mile-long transportation
facility constructed in 1927. The signal system
includes three two-track and four four-track
interlockings. In addition to the state-of-the-art
signal upgrades, the project involved a new fiber
optic distribution system, new automatic vehicle
identification and train dispatching equipment
at the site and on the existing cars, new electric
switches and train stops, and new centrally controlled
switch and train stop electric heaters in the
yard. Normal schedules were maintained throughout
the four-year construction period.
