AmtrakAmtrak is planning to replace its current computer based CTC and SCADA control systems in Philadelphia, New York and Boston, known as CETC, with a modern state of technology control system in Wilmington, Delaware. Amtrak is actively engaged in the development of preliminary engineering documents and is planning to have final bid documents for the new Control System by the end of 2004. These bid documents must include accurate information pertaining to the existing signal systems' control and indication arrangements including, data tables, RTU addresses, RTU type and hierarchical structures among others. Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems was awarded two tasks under their GEC Contract for A/E Services, to assist Amtrak with assembling this information for Amtrak's Philadelphia and Metropolitan Divisions. The first task which is referred to as "Code Charts I" documented existing controls and indications that are being sent and received from the CETC system in Philadelphia, PA and the 42 interlockings from CP Avenue to CP Holmes inclusive. This task also involved the preparation of a single line signal layout diagrams to illustrate the connection between the code system data and the wayside infrastructure. GFT&RS also prepared system block diagrams that illustrate the command and control configuration of the various systems and sub-systems at the interlockings.

AmtrakGFT&RS has finished its work for Code Charts I and has recently started on the Code Charts II segment of this work which will encompass the Metropolitan Division, between Croy and Hudson, but not including Interlockings presently controlled from tower locations including Union and Dock. Code Charts II will also provide updated information for Penn, Girard, Mantua, Shore and Holmes in the Philadelphia Division which were inventoried under Code Charts I.
