New York – Boston High Speed Rail Project

New York - Boston High Speed Rail ProjectClient: National Railroad Passenger Corporation
Location: New York to Boston Rail Corridor
Value: $25,000,000 (Fee)

Gannett Fleming was the lead member of the Joint Venture that provided General Engineering Consultant services for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor High Speed Rail Improvement Project. The goal of the project was to reduce running times from Boston to New York by an hour to approximately three hours. This project included seven bridge raises and 45 track lowerings at structures to achieve clearances for electrification of the line from New Haven to Boston; high-speed track design for 150 mph operations; four additional passing sidings; signal and communication design and numerous other operational, environmental, and final design tasks associated with such a major project. As a result of these upgrades, Amtrak estimates that as many as 3,000,000 additional passengers will use the rail line in lieu of flying or driving in the Northeast.
