Traction Power

The foundation of traction power consists of computer simulation to develop design parameters for the substation and the Overhead Contact System (OCS) or Third Rail System. Such parameters include:

  • Electrical demand
  • Momentary overload
  • Two-hour overload
  • OCS voltage profile during peak demand.

Current flow through all the traction cables is provided by the train performance and the electrical network computer simulation and catenary wire sizes.

The Building Blocks of Our Traction Systems Consist of:

  • Proven equipment through many years of reliable traction service
  • Field tested reliable control schemes
  • Short circuit and relay coordination studies
  • Ground-grid design based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 80 design method
  • Equipment testing based on all applicable American National Standards Institute and IEEE codes
  • Strict conformance to all applicable codes, client standards, procedures, and practices.
